Mother Teresa of St.Rose of Lima founded this Institute in 1887 at Ernakulam, Cochin, Kerala.  The members of this Congregation engage in the work of education, care of orphans , destitutes and aged, health care-running dispensaries, hospices, clinics and mobile clinics in the mission areas, house visiting and catechizing and prison ministry.
