The Institute of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart was founded by Fr.Adrian Caussanel SJ on February 11, 1903 at Irudayakulam, Tirunelveli District in south India.  The specific end of the Institute is to attain salvation and in particular to impart religious and secular education to conduct or help in running orphanages and boarding establishments for the Sacrament of baptism to visit the sick and to take care of them and to cater for the poorest of the poor through education, social welfare programmes and health services and evangelization.
